Biography
Jim is retired from the Meteorological
Service of Canada, where he traveled Canada extensively
as a Meteorological Technician. This included a number
of years with the Canadian Ice Patrol working in the
Arctic as an Ice Observer flying on both helicopter
and fixed wing aircraft. This certainly gave him an
appreciation of the magnificent scenes this country
has to offer whether it be towering icebergs hugging
the coast of some arctic island or a wooded forest in
Ontario. Always sketching and painting along the way
with oil as the preferred medium his main interest is
landscape painting occasionally branching out into other
areas to challenge new subjects.
Jim views each completed painting is
a new experience with something new to carry on to the
next.
Self taught at first, he honed his
skills by taking training at Seneca College and the
Newmarket School of Fine Art. He continues to attend
various workshops knowing that there is always something
new to be learned whether it’s a new technique
or the introduction of a new medium.
Recent juried shows include the Aurora
Art Show in 2005 and 2006.
Jim is a member of the Society of York Region Artists
and his art has won awards at the two most recent annual
shows.
