Art
Night at the Club
Voyage through the High Arctic |
Wednesday,
February 8, 2006 from 7 to 9 PM |
Featuring
Arctic Quest artists Paul Gauthier and RoseMarie
Condon |
|
RoseMarie
Condon and Paul Gauthier, both Arctic Quest
artists, share their experiences of travelling
through the High Arctic aboard the Ice-breakier
C.C.G.S. Henry Larson. They spent endless hours
sketching and photographing the magical light
that played off dramatic, seemingly endless
panoramas of land, ice, sea and sky from the
ship and the ship's helicopter. |
"What
a rare opportunity to experience the Arctic
in all her glory and join in a spirited camaraderie
with Larsen's officers and crew. From Nova Scotia
to Iqaluit and Kuujjuaq, the coast of Greenland
to Baffin, Devon, Beechey and Little Cornwallis
Islands we sailed. The Larsen broke a channel
in the ice pack for ore carriers and supply
ships travelling to and from Nunavut through
ice choked Lancaster Sound, Davis Strait, Baffin
Bay, Admiralty Inlet and further north to Bent
Horn. The Larsen sailed past enormous icebergs
constantly flanked by flocks of fulmars, kittiwakes,
jaegers, terns, gulls and murres."
